Abdul Malik Nobel is a Bangladeshi-born, York-based watercolour artist whose plein-air practice focuses on light, atmosphere, and the emotional essence of place.
En plein air - French for 'in the open air' - is a style popularised by the Impressionist artists of the 19th century, where the artist paints outdoors, directly on site, capturing the atmosphere and natural light of a location in real time using loose brushstrokes.

About This Painting
This atmospheric watercolour captures the energy and grandeur of York Railway Station. The elegant Victorian arches frame three modern trains as passengers embark on their journeys. Platform 3, featured in the painting, serves the LNER London to Edinburgh route, connecting York to the capital and beyond. Abdul has beautifully contrasted the historic architecture with contemporary rail travel, creating a scene that celebrates both York's railway heritage and its continuing role as a vital transport hub.
