As a Yorkshire lass, Linda was thrilled to have been awarded the Yorkshire Life LANDSCAPE PAINTER OF THE YEAR for 2017. She has added to her shelf of trophies in 2022, winning the Best Up and Coming Artist Award at the Fine Art Awards of fine art.co.uk
Born, brought up and living on a working Dales farm, Linda has lived close to nature all her life. Painting and sketching has always been integral in her life.
Many moons ago she had four fabulous years studying Graphic Design at York, culminating with a distinction in Industrial Art and Design. As a student, when working on thumb-nail sketches for designs, she frequently had her initial designs torn up by her tutor for putting in too much detail! Thirty years on she still gets lost in the detail – spending hours perfecting each part of the layout of her paintings before she even starts to apply the paint!
After Art School Linda worked as a Graphic Designer before the farm and family life took over. As her family were growing up she taught herself to paint in watercolour, mainly working to commission on landscapes and animal portraits. Not long ago she started to paint in acrylic…loving the vibrant colours that this medium allows. She is inspired by her love of Yorkshire life; never tires of its seasons, the wildlife, the animals she works with and stunning countryside. Her leaning towards Graphic Design and love of country life is reflected in her paintings.
Linda considers herself incredibly fortunate to have a studio at home allowing her, not only to combine her life-long love of painting with helping out on the farm, but also giving her the perfect excuse to explore the landscapes and market towns of the beautiful North….the icing on the cake. © Linda Mellin
