She stands on the balcony with her back to us, a glass of red wine held loosely in her hand, her gaze fixed on the water as the sun slips below the horizon. The sky burns with warm pinks and deep mauves, the light reflected in the still waterway below. Whatever she's thinking, she's in no hurry to go inside.
Mark's palette here takes on a more atmospheric quality — the warm ambers and burnt oranges of his candlelit interiors give way to the softer, fading glow of dusk, with deep velvety shadows and the last warmth of the day caught in the water's surface.
