Candlelit Evening – Mark Braithwaite
She sits at the table in profile, hands clasped, her gaze drifting somewhere beyond the room. A single red candle flickers between her and a glass of red wine, the bottle beside it catching the light. The wall behind her blazes with warm amber — almost like firelight — enveloping the scene in that intimate, contemplative glow that defines Mark's figurative work.
Deep burnt oranges and warm chestnuts suffuse every corner of the composition, the shadows rich and velvety in the Old Masters tradition. It's a quiet moment, beautifully observed.
This painting was a finalist in Art Business Today magazine's competition with Canon, and was displayed in Canon's offices in Holborn, London.
