Description
A Big Old Squish – Sam Toft
Mr and Mrs Mustard are having a big hug — and Doris is squished happily in between, very much part of the family and not remotely bothered about it. Lady Violet is feeling especially bright today, wearing her new favourite daffodil yellow mac and pink headscarf, a basket of blue flowers on her arm. A gift from Mr Mustard, perhaps? He has that look about him. It is a warm, joyful, utterly Sam Toft scene — full of love, colour, and a Jack Russell who has absolutely no concept of personal space.
Gallery Remarque
An extra-special piece for a Sam Toft collector: a limited edition print with its own little original drawing. On the lower right of the mount, Sam has drawn a scarf-wearing Mustard character carrying a basket of flowers, a lovely echo of the picture above. The remarque is hand-signed by Sam.
After our Meet the Artist event at The Braithwaite Gallery on 20 September 2026, Sam stayed on to create hand-drawn remarques for the gallery to offer for sale following her visit. Only one print has this remarque: hand-drawn by Sam Toft on the mount rather than the print itself, it is a one-off miniature original artwork. See photos from Sam Toft’s visit on our First & Finest exhibition page.
To share a little of that kindness, we will also make a donation to charity for each Gallery Remarque sold.
