The Dog Basket – Dotty Earl
From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. A hardworking housewife in a blue apron dress and matching headscarf hangs bright, colourful washing on a line in a grey flagstone backyard: a yellow dress, a pink dress, red trousers, green trousers, orange bloomers, socks. She's in her slippers of course. Grass pushes up through the cracks in the flags. And there, in the middle of the laundry basket, her dog has made himself entirely at home and is fast asleep. The basket is his now. A cat watches from the wall above. A mouse lurks by the broom. Very northern. Very familiar. Full of little surprises.
Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
