High on a rooftop beneath a sky full of stars, two cats sit in quiet company. One bold, one shy, caught in a moment that might just be love, as the moon casts a gentle glow over their midnight meeting.
This quirky piece has been created by Artist Gary Walton in support of PAPYRUS, a charity focused on the prevention of young suicide, with all proceeds from the raffle of the artwork helping save young lives.
Continuing with his immense generosity, Gary kindly sent us a whole collection of mixed media original paintings for us to sell as a part of our ongoing charity fundraising in aid of PAPYRUS, in memory of Jake, son of gallery owners Anne and Mark - lost to suicide aged just 20.
Gary’s 'Moonlight Meeting' painting has an image size 100 x 100mm; and is presented in a deep off white mount with decorative v-groove detail, outer mount dimensions approximately 300 x 310mm.
This miniature size has been painted especially for the gallery - Gary doesn’t usually work in this scale - so we had no idea what to charge. Gary’s instruction was to do our best for the charity, so what better way to do that than raffle it?
The winning ticket will be selected at random on New Year's Eve, 31st December 2025. A nice end to the year for one lucky customer!
Both Gary and ourselves at the Braithwaite Gallery want to show our support and admiration for PAPYRUS and everything they do for young people in need.
We can ship the mounted artwork worldwide.
TICKETS can be bought online or by phone in blocks of 5 for £10, or in person at the gallery for £2 each.
nb You will be assigned a ticket number/ block of 5 numbers. You will receive an email to confirm receipt however we will not be posting physical tickets.
BBC Radio York and the local media have been great supporters of our fundraising efforts - Gallery Director Anne is regularly invited to speak on Bec Homer's morning show on BBC Radio York.
PAPYRUS is a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people. Just £7 can help provide a lifesaving phone call to someone in need.
All funds raised from the raffle of this artwork will be donated to PAPYRUS via our JustGiving page. We are thrilled to have raised over £15,000 for this worthwhile cause in 2023-25, and hope to do more to help PAPYRUS save young lives over the coming year. Previous fundraisers for mental health charity Mind raised £5825. Huge thanks to everyone involved.
PAPYRUS tells us: "Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. We believe many young suicides can be prevented. Through fundraising you are raising vital awareness of PAPYRUS and spreading our message of hope."
