Fundraising result — Summer 2026: The winner of White Sails, chosen on 4th May 2026, was Ray from Scunthorpe. The raffle raised an amazing £1,364 for PAPYRUS. This page remains live as a record of the fundraiser; no further entries or donations are available through it.

A delightful miniature original acrylic painting by one of our most popular artists, Gary Walton, in a new format for 2026.
This quirky piece was created by Artist Gary Walton in support of PAPYRUS, a charity focused on the prevention of young suicide. The fundraiser was held in memory of Jake, son of gallery owners Anne and Mark, who was lost to suicide aged just 20.
This miniature size was painted especially for the gallery — Gary doesn’t usually work in this scale — and Gary’s instruction was to do our best for the charity.
Painted in a circular porthole effect on a square, black painted board, White Sails features a delightful little orange painted boat, moored in the harbour. Gary's quirky little houses and a striped lighthouse sit on the deep blue horizon, where the crescent moon and stars twinkle overhead.
This original painting is signed by the artist and has been framed in a wide black scoop profile wooden frame, selected by the artist.
Gary has also signed and titled the artwork on a Certificate of Authenticity on the reverse of the frame. The certificate carries a lovely message from Gary, which says ‘I hope my artwork fills you with joy and happiness! Thank you for purchasing a piece of my imagination, and may you have many years enjoying it.’ What a nice man he is. We do love Gary!

Both Gary and ourselves at The Braithwaite Gallery were proud to show our support and admiration for PAPYRUS and the work it did for young people in need.
BBC Radio York and the local media have been great supporters of our fundraising efforts — Gallery Director Anne is regularly invited to speak on Bec Homer's morning show on BBC Radio York.
PAPYRUS was dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people. Its fundraising pages are no longer publicly visible, so we are preserving this page as part of the gallery’s fundraising history.
Final amount raised: £1,364. Previous fundraisers for mental health charity Mind raised £5,825. Huge thanks to everyone involved.
