So Then She Said – Dotty Earl
From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. The phone was picked up some time ago and shows no sign of being put down. A tall figure with auburn hair and glasses is draped across a pink chaise longue — lavender trousers, kitten heels, cocktail glass in hand — deep in conversation. The rotary dial telephone sits on the side table beside her. She is absolutely not going anywhere.
Her little white dog sits on the floor next to her, lead in mouth, looking up with pointed patience. He has been waiting. He is still waiting. The walk remains theoretical.
Pink striped wallpaper, pink carpet, framed pictures, a palm plant in the corner, a drinks trolley to the left. A warmly nostalgic sitting room scene with a very relatable dynamic at its heart.
The Braithwaite Gallery sold the original of this painting a little while ago — it's wonderful to see it available as a print.
Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.
This print is presented in an acid-free mount, ready to frame.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
