Silent Night, The Shambles from Mark Braithwaite's atmospheric Silent Night
This wintry evening scene shows off York’s famous street, The Shambles, at its most atmospheric. It is one of the best preserved medieval streets in the world, originally a street of butchers, with the old meat hooks still to be seen outside a number of the shops.
Lit up only by the lamplight casting shadows on the snowy ground, this is a truly immersive image.
