Silent Night, The City Walls
from Mark Braithwaite's Silent Night Collection
The City Walls in York, also known as The Bar Walls, have a history dating back to Roman times with a significant amount of construction having taken place during the Medieval period. A Walk round the walls offers wonderful views of the city and its landmarks. This image shows Lord Mayor’s Walk on a snowy evening in Winter. The snow-covered ground and mounds are lit by the light of a street lamp and spotlights illuminate Robin Hood Tower to the right. A beautiful atmospheric scene which glows with warmth despite the season.
