From Gallery Resident Artist Mark Braithwaite's From the Shadows, Zombie Apocalypse collection.
This is the original watercolour of Blood Moon, Dance Macabre.
Dance Macabre; skeletons dance and crowns circle in purple skies under the red Blood Moon, the lunar eclipse of the Frost Moon.
"I based my skeletons on medieval drawings and woodcuts, and updated them. The original pieces had quite an unusual understanding of anatomy, but in a way that's made them even more sinister."
Gallery Resident Artist Mark Braithwaite says he needed something to entertain himself whilst working in the studio on his City Shadows project over the winter.... he chose to amuse himself by painting zombies. When he brought the paintings and prints into the gallery we rather enjoyed the results!
Following on from the success of his 'Zombie Apocalypse' series, Mark has expanded the range to create the 'From the Shadows' collection, of other supernatural beings and mystical happenings. York is the most haunted city in Europe after all, so he's not short of inspiration!
Mark tells us "This is the latest in my fun series of ghostly illustrations, 'From the Shadows' painted in watercolour and mixed media. In the sky I have used Schminke Horadam Supergranulation watercolours which made the unusual skies happen!"
Approximate image size 25x25cm; mounted in a black core white mount and framed in a wide distressed black wooden frame.
Prints are also available.
