From the Shadows; Mars Attacks! Coo-mageddon ... by Mark Braithwaite
Coo-mageddon strikes on the North York Moors!
Special thanks to the artist's daughter for the idea behind this fun painting.
Inspired by 1950s sci-fi, Mark has painted an invasion of spaceships, arriving over the Moors, under a stunning burnt umber sky. Can you spot the farmer being beamed up from the top of his tractor, alongside his herd of highland cows, by the Martian invaders?
Painted in mixed media on watercolour on paper.
Mark got some new Opal paints at Christmas, which have been used on the spaceships looming in the sky overhead. The unusual paint gives an iridescent effect, changing tone from different angles.
Following on from the success of his 'Zombie Apocalypse' series, Gallery Resident Artist Mark Braithwaite has expanded the range to create the 'From the Shadows' collection, of other supernatural beings and mystical happenings. York is the most haunted city in Europe after all, so he's not short of inspiration!
Mark tells us "This is the latest in my fun series of ghostly illustrations, 'From the Shadows' painted in watercolour and mixed media. In the sky I have used Schminke Horadam Supergranulation watercolours which made the unusual skies happen!"
The painting has been mounted in a stylish white mount with a black core. The outer mount measures 40x40cm; a standard metric size. The painting can be framed in a wide distressed black wood and glass frame.
Prints are also available.
