From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. It's one of those summer days when everyone has the same idea. A colourful narrowboat sits moored on the canal, dressed in bunting and painted panels, a white dog with a jaunty red neckerchief keeping watch from the roof. On the towpath, a tall figure strides past in a yellow coat, dog at her heels. A figure in stripes sits contentedly on the stern. Further along, someone cycles past the old waterwheel, ducks on the water below, Victorian terraces and factory chimneys stretching back across the hills. Dotty has packed this nostalgic panoramic scene with life — peer into the windows and you'll find even more of it.

Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
