‘Til Death Do Us Part… – Lord Monteagle
A little ghostly wedding, with vows that seem to have lasted rather longer than expected. Wearing a silver crown and a smart black top hat, this charming pair stand together beside a stack of bright orange pumpkins. Their softly folded pearly cloaks and watchful dark eyes give each a character of their own, a sweet little celebration of togetherness with a playful twist on the traditional marriage vows.
Battery-operated tealight candles sit inside the ghostly figures, bringing a gentle glow to their wedding scene as the evenings draw in.
Inspired by Mark Braithwaite’s Beneath the Sheets series of ghostly pictures, gallery staff member Ian has created Ghosts in the Gallery. Each ghostly figurine is individually crafted from air-drying clay and hand painted with pearlised paint. Each is unique, with its own personality.

The story behind Lord Monteagle
When Mark painted his Guy Fawkes-themed Treason and Plot picture, we were fascinated to find that the plot was foiled by a letter written to Lord Monteagle, which also happens to be Ian’s surname. Mark created a special Enchanted picture for Ian with the words Lord Monteagle illuminated across the gunpowder keg, and this seemed the obvious name for Ian’s ghostly creative endeavour.
