Chaperones – Dotty Earl
From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. Two friends sit on a red gingham picnic blanket on a clifftop, backs to us, looking out over a wide bay. One in a long orange coat and straw hat, one in pink with long blonde hair and a floral dress beneath. Between them, two dogs — a golden terrier and a little white dog — sit facing the sea as well, equally absorbed in the view. The chaperones are taking their responsibilities very seriously.
Colourful harbour towns curve around both sides of the bay below. A picnic basket, a thermos flask, plates on the blanket. Wildflowers in the foreground, seagulls in the sky. A nostalgic, utterly peaceful coastal scene.
Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
