Beyond the Last Light – Anna Schofield
A blaze of golden light glows along the horizon in Beyond the Last Light, an original oil painting on canvas board by Anna Schofield. Sweeping clouds of magenta, plum and apricot surround a luminous opening of pale blue and white, capturing that fleeting moment when the evening sky seems to hold the whole landscape in its glow.
Below the expansive sky, deep shadows meet vivid patches of green, coral and pink. Thickly layered paint brings a richly tactile quality to the foreground, while a ribbon of pale turquoise and reflected light draws the eye towards the distant horizon. It is a small painting with a wonderfully expansive feeling, full of warmth, movement and the lingering drama of sunset.
Anna creates her artworks from memory, giving her the freedom to express the emotions a place leaves behind. Her decisive brushwork and richly textured surfaces lend each painting its own energy and character.
