From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. Outside, the sky is grey and stormy. Inside, it's warm. An old man in a white shirt and red braces leans forward from a green floral armchair and raises both hands to the wall. The shadow that falls is a perfect donkey. His little white dog — red collar, naturally — sits facing it, head tilted, completely transfixed.
A cuckoo clock ticks on the wall. A newspaper and mug sit on the side table. Just the two of them, on a quiet afternoon, entertaining each other. One of Dotty's most warmly nostalgic and quietly touching scenes.
Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
