A Blustery Day – Dotty Earl
From Dotty Earl's Tall Stories series — where the figures are always gloriously oversized. It's one of those days. The wind has arrived without warning, and the whole street is losing the battle. Umbrellas are inside out, hats are airborne, litter blows across the wet pavement. Figures lean into the gale from both directions, coats flapping, bags swinging. A white dog trots along on its lead, entirely unbothered.
In the middle of it all, one small figure in a yellow mac and yellow wellies stands perfectly still, sheltering serenely under a bright yellow umbrella. She came prepared. This nostalgic, rain-lashed street scene is pure Dotty — warm, witty and full of the kind of British weather we all know too well.
Dotty works in mixed media — watercolour with pastel and coloured pencil, with a smidge of charcoal and ink pen thrown in — giving her work a soft, whimsical quality that is entirely her own. She calls it The Twirly World of Dotty Earl.

About Dotty Earl
Dotty was born and grew up on the Wirral, and was drawn to art from a young age — going on to study at Wirral Metropolitan College before earning a degree in Film and Animation at the University of Humberside. She spent many years as a digital artist and animator in the computer games industry, illustrating novels and designing artwork for clothing lines along the way.
Dotty now lives in a small Yorkshire village, where her love of painting bright, colourful characters — created to make people smile — continues to grow.
