Painted on a stretched canvas, using acrylic paint applied with a pallet knife to create a wonderful texture, Amanda mixes her own colour palette to create a vintage feel.
A delightfully nostalgic literary themed image in which Amanda has incorporated the spines of a large number of book covers from well-known and classic titles which have been enjoyed for decades by children and young adults. Authors and titles include Beatrix Potter, The Worst Witch, The Wind in the Willows, Enid Blyton, Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, Milly Molly Mandy, Roald Dahl, Mrs Pepperpot, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Dr Seuss, Winnie the Pooh and The Chronicals of Narnia.
Set against a sage green background, we see our reader sitting atop a pile of books engrossed in her favourite Pippi Longstocking book. All we can see of her is the hem of her frilly white skirt patterned with red hearts, her striped green stockings and red pumps with laces undone.
A perfect gift for any child who loves literature or indeed any adult who wants to relive the pleasure that childhood hours spent reading brought them.
