The Tide’s Out
A sister image to the lovely ‘Waiting for the Tide’ this seaside painting depicts a fishing fleet resting silently near the harbour wall of this typical coastal town. It won’t be long before they’ll be bobbing about at high tide ready for the catch.
Painted in a muted palette dominated by sandy yellows and ocean blues the overall atmosphere of the picture is one of serene calm. Its easy to imagine the lives of the villagers behind the doors of those cosy cottages, as they prepare to go out to sea.
The layers of paint have been applied in the quirky naïve style that is unique to the artist. Kerry often builds up fine layers of paint scraping back into underlayers and building up texture in other areas of the canvas. Her warped perspective is a conscious choice and is a signature element of her style.
They say ‘Time and tide waits for no man’ but ‘Waiting for the Tide’ simply needs to be seen to be appreciated and will sit happily in any space.
A mounted open edition giclée print.
