Steep Hill, Lincoln
Steep Hill, Lincoln is a captivating painting completed Kerry’s own unique style. It is full of the hustle and bustle of the Cathedral quarter of one of the UK’s most ancient of cities. Home to the Magna Carta the cathedral was the highest building in the world for many a century and even now on your approach to it you can see the building sitting high on its hill for miles around.
The hill is certainly steep and with its age, it contains some of the oldest dwellings in the country. Some of these iconic structures have been given a sense of their own personality and character by the artist, who uses this technique to celebrate these beautiful old buildings and give them space on the canvas to shine.
The figures in the painting lend a sense of the varied life that the city sees on a daily basis. This helps the painting come to life. There is a friendly energy projected through the naïve style of the artwork and the work is enhanced through the placement of quirkily depicted features.
