CONTEMPORARY CITYSCAPE from artist Bill Tolley
Born in Chiswick, London, at fifteen years old Bill Tolley won a scholarship to Saint Martins College of Art, London. The course was intended to catch pupils at a young age and enable them to capture a spontaneous, naïve approach to art. The idea was to create an artist with the ability to be free-minded and insightful before it was lost through age.
Following the scholarship at St. Martins he enrolled for two years National Service, returning to the College for two year whilst working part time. He became a very successful freelance visualiser, working for numerous advertising agencies in London. Bill then later moved onto oil/acrylic paintings loving the vibrancy and texture that could be created.
He also enjoyed working with the medium of stained glass, a style that is still evident in Bills work today. Bill is best known for his use of texture and the charming almost 'Lowry-esque' style of painting.
He has exhibited across the world from the U.K. to the USA, Canada, Australia and
Malaysia.
Bill feels that most artists spoil their work by intellectualising it - 'if you evaluate art it automatically loses that magical feeling'. In his own words 'philosophy satisfies the mind, whereas painting satisfies the emotions'.
Bill Tolley’s Original work and Limited Edition prints are both in very strong demand throughout the world, with most Ltd Editions prints now sold out.
Seven of Bill's images are now available as prints on canvas in addition to those on paper. Each delightful Limited Edition is individually numbered and is approved and hand signed by the artist.
