Landscape Portfolio - Gallery 4
Scrol down the page to see Mark's images of areas outside York!
Resident artist at The Braithwaite Gallery in York, Mark is a self-taught artist, working in watercolour, oil, acrylic and pastel.
He has become a well known tourist attraction in the city over many years, painting outisde in the streets of our beautiful city!
His vast portfolio cover subjects as diverse as cityscapes, telephone boxes and dancers!
Ths section showcases some of the paintings Mark has completed of other locations outside York; some commissioned, some just because he liked the view! The Newcastle pieces were commissioned by Nestle, and Autumn at the College by GMB Union.
Each is easily recognisable as Mark's work, with its attention to detail and bold Impressionist colours, however these pictures mark a move away from Mark's previous York pictures. The Classic York collection documents York's landmarks in lifelike detail, whereas the river and season studies try to capture fantastic light and cloud conditions that may only exist for a few moments! The fascination with interesting skies has become a feature of nuch of Mark's recent work.
Mark has tended to paint in acrylc on canvas whilst painting outdoors, as acrylic has the benefit of drying quickly and being resilient to Yorkshire's changeable weaher conditions! On sunny summer days in the city you may have seen Mark painting in watercolour !
Mark's trademark black cat, Lucy, makes an appearance in almost all of Mark's cityscape pictures.
